This week's note from Fr. Anthony:
Dear parishioners,
This week we have men's and women's group at St. Mary's following the Wednesday evening liturgy, all
are welcome.
Sunday is a packed day in the life of our parishes! There will be a Father's Day Brunch following the
8:30am Divine Liturgy at St. George. Elina Reda will be baptized at the 11am Divine Liturgy at St. Mary.
Our seminarian, Alex Broussard, will be ordained a subdeacon at 3:00pm at the Cathedral.
After months of deliberation and prayer, I am making several changes to our schedule. Each parish will
receive one weeknight liturgy at 6:00pm, Tuesdays at St. George and Wednesdays at St. Mary.
Confessions will be available beginning at 5:00pm before each liturgy.
Wednesday Hours will remain at St. George at 7:00am. Thursday Divine Liturgy will be moved to
8:00am at St. Mary. Friday Divine Liturgy will remain at 9:00am at St. Mary.
I will be adding a monthly Theology on Tap style adult education class at St. George one Thursday
a month beginning in July (see announcement).
A prayer shawl ministry will begin at St. George in the fall; Jackie Pinchot will help coordinate and I
encourage people from both Churches to join.
There are several special events planned at both Churches in the upcoming months, starting with our 4
day Mission to pray for the fallen away Catholics August 3rd-6th.
All these changes will be reevaluated at the end of the year.
There are several reasons for these changes. We've been blessed with a major influx of financial support
at St. George, and I want to focus our efforts on running quality events that will hopefully draw
newcomers and be well attended. After nearly two years of offering two evening Divine Liturgies per
week at St. George, attendance has remained very low (3-6 parishioners typically) and I believe it is
better to change the direction of our efforts at St. George. I hope that one evening liturgy will have a
more concentrated attendance and will free up time and energy to focus on additional programming.
From my own point of view, morning Divine Liturgies work better with my schedule to allow me to
focus on my other duties. It is simpler for me to have them at St. Mary's because I live there and there
has not been as much interest at St. George in a morning weekday liturgy as at St. Mary. Should there be
a group of 5-6 parishioners committed to attending a Thursday morning at St. George, I will happily
move it to there.
St. Mary's has been experiencing steady growth, and we will continue to focus on maintaining the already
established liturgical schedule, pirohi project, men's and women's groups, chant group, and other
occasional events.
I believe this is a very exciting time for both of our parishes!
In Christ,
Fr. Anthony
